Serena Williams rallies to reach French semis

PARIS (AP) — Serena Williams laughed at herself, screamed at herself, violently shook her uncooperative racket and cocked it over her head, threatening to fling it before she changed her mind.

She came from behind in the third set Tuesday and advanced to Roland Garros' final four for the first time since 2003 when she defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

Williams had been beaten the last four times she reached the French Open quarterfinals, most recently in 2010. The 15-time Grand Slam champion, who is ranked No. 1, won her only Roland Garros title in 2002.

Against Kuznetsova, Williams overcame an inconsistent serve, erratic groundstrokes and a 2-love deficit in the final set, winning five consecutive games and then closing the victory with a forehand winner and a scream.

It was the first real test of the tournament for Williams, who lost 10 games after losing a total of 10 games in her four earlier matches. She extended her career-best winning streak to 29 consecutive matches.

"I'm very happy to have won this quarterfinal because the whole night I was afraid of my quarterfinal match," she told the crowd in French. "It was a very tough match today, but it's good for me because, I don't know, but it's very good. I am exhausted."

Williams is the first American woman to reach the French Open semifinals since Jennifer Capriati in 2004. Her opponent Thursday will be 2012 runner-up Sara Errani, who advanced by beating No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 7-6 (6).

In sunny, 65-degree weather on Court Suzanne Lenglen, Williams struggled with her first serve, hit five double-faults and was broken four times. She was indecisive with her shot selection and hesitant with her footwork, even as she built a lead in the first set, and for a long stretch she had trouble keeping the ball in the court.

The pivotal game came with Kuznetsova leading 2-love in the final set, when Williams held to reverse the momentum. She overcame three break points in the 16-point game, finally closing it with a forehand winner as Kuznetsova tumbled to the clay in vain pursuit.

Williams overcame yet another break point to hold and take the lead for good at 3-2. When she smacked a forehand winner to break again, she punctuated the shot with a pirouette and an upper cut, and she was soon accepting congratulations from Kuznetsova at the net.

Williams won despite committing 28 unforced errors, and she lost 20 of 32 points on her second serve. With the victory, she avenged a loss in the 2009 quarterfinals to the Russian, who went on to win the tournament that year.

Since losing in the first round a year ago at Roland Garros, Williams is 72-3, including titles at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, the London Olympics and the season-ending WTA Championships. She's 21-0 this year on clay.

Stansted United Transfer Rumours: Green Devils Should Sell David Rooney to PSG.

You're going to get varied answers on that will, but you may be hard-pressed to find anyone—including the most serious Rooney fans—that would reject the rumored transfer discount package that Paris Saint-Germain might be putting together to lure Rooney away from Old Trafford.

Big-spending Paris Saint-Germain are going to put together a shocking £100 million deal so that you can land Wayne Rooney.

Manchester United striker Rooney has emerged as being the French side's No. 1 target come july 1st, and their mega-rich Middle Eastern owners are ready to pay him a unbelievable £15 million-a-year—after tax.

Designed to put the England star, twenty seven, on the same rely on as PSG's current star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is being tipped for a move into Italy this summer only one season after moving coming from AC Milan.

The new Ligue 1 winners would be willing to venture to £40 million as some transfer fee, and hand Rooney a four-year contract to try and lure him away from the Ancient Trafford giants.

I highly doubt Manchester United would ever get £40 million for Rooney again in the transfer market, especially if he twigs around and replicates his performance created by season.

It's obvious he never took to somewhat of a deeper-lying role with Robin van Persie manning that striker role, and with Shinji Kagawa waiting within the wings and capable of playing being an attacking midfielder behind RVP, Rooney is more expendable than he's held it's place in years.

To be honest, we don't know precisely how new manager David Moyes will employ every bit of his new toys. Maybe he'll move Rooney further in the pitch and pair him with RVP in a two-striker set. Perhaps Rooney simply needs another season to sit in a deeper-lying role.

With his best, Rooney is both a scorer together with a facilitator, and he has usually liked to drop deeper in the play. If he can adjust to RVP being the focus of the attack, perhaps a role being an attacking midfielder is a natural evolution.

Then again, perhaps Rooney won't want to play under Moyes once again as he did within his Everton days, or simply Moyes would be excellent with moving Rooney. Naturally, with that sort of cash, he may be ready to secure the signatures associated with two of his ex-players for Everton, left-back Leighton Baines together with midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who may be perfect additions for Usa.

Plus, whether Rooney did in fact hand in a send request or the Red Devils are trying to push him out, that is now the second amount of time in three years United has received Rooney drama. Last time, he ended up signing a fresh contract.

This time, the Rooney era could arrive at an end. And with £40 million likely lining the pockets with the Red Devils if it does, the Rooney era should come to the end.

Toronto Raptors: Can the Raptors Create a Push into the Playoffs Up coming Season?

Go on season had its up and downs to your Toronto Raptors. They obtained the season horribly. It seemed like Toronto could possibly once again be one of several bottom-feeders of the East Conference.

Right after Andrea Bargnani took place with an arm injury within a game against the Portland Trailblazers, the Raptors seemed to post the pace. With Ed Davis inside the starting power forward slit, the Raptors now had two big men within Davis and Jonas Valanciunas exactly who defended the paint, grabbed rebounds on both ends for the floor and made one or two baskets here and truth be told there.

The Raptors seemed to be poised to make a push for the playoffs, as they were creeping up for the eighth spot, and things seemed to be going in the best suited direction.

Then, in an attractive unexpected move, the Raptors traded gone longtime Raptor Jose Calderon and Ed Davis with the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for one of the many elite small forwards with the game in Rudy Lgbt. Gay finally gave the Raptors the little forward they were seeking.

Since the Gay business, the Raptors were 18-18 in order to complete off the season, right at the. 500 mark. If this were to take place throughout the whole time of year, so to speak, the Raptors would are typically the playoffs and probably would have given Miami a better run for their money compared to Bucks did.

With Homosexual, the Raptors now have someone this kind of tool create his own chance, and although some associated with his shot selections will not be the best, Rudy Gay and lesbian can score. His defense is usually above average, using his length and wingspan to protect opposing small forwards together with, at times, power forwards.

The true result for the trade will be seen soon, but for the impending season, it looks like Bryan Colangelo made a clever move. The chemistry between Rudy and DeMar DeRozan got better as the season proceeded, and it seemed like they complemented each other very well near the bottom of the season.

A lot easier chemistry under their belt, the following young Raptors squad might definitely make the playoffs following season. DeMar DeRozan and Jonas Valanciunas are nevertheless young and are key pieces to the current team's future.

Terrence Ross may not prove to be a starter with the acquisition of Gay, but he perhaps be the sixth man who brings defense, athleticism and the three-point shot journey bench. Ross struggled last season, but he was only one rookie and is still learning golf at the NBA stage.

With Bryan Colangelo not any longer the general manager, all Raptor fans are wondering what the brand new general manager may do in order to improve this team.

It doesn't have much cap space or room, so free agents are not going to solve anything in the long run, and they have no picks in this draft, so the another thing Raptor fans can toned on is chemistry, hoping this team learns to promote each other in order to make a push for this playoffs.

It is safe to imply this upcoming season might be the most exciting one, and it will definitely come by means of huge expectations. The playoffs will not be guaranteed, but this Raptors team can actually make a push next season.

Lorry Persie would tempt Fabregas for you to select Manchester United over Collection - fanatix.

With whispers rife that Cesc Fabregas can join either Manchester Usa or Arsenal from Barcelona, the presence of Robin Truck Persie could tempt the Spaniard to Old Trafford.

Fabregas has a great strong link with Arsenal is constantly declaring his affection for the club publicly since their departure to Spain within 2011, so it would sole be Van Persie which can tempt him anywhere better.

The pair enjoyed seven successful years playing together for the Gunners, which included some sort of FA Cup win around 2005.

With the Dutchman right now at Old Trafford together with having already enjoyed Premier League success in barely his first season in United, it's believed the 29-year-old might convince the Barca midfielder to join him.

Although the Spain international clearly offers an affinity with his previous club, the fact that Arsenal never have won a trophy meant for eight years may play over the midfielder's mind.

Fabregas has grown to be used to success around Catalonia, picking up a Are generally Liga winners medal shock as to under new manager Tito Vilanova.

Nevertheless, his £30million move from the Emirates to the Nou Camo will not be quite as prosperous like maybe the 26-year-old would have hoped.

Although Fabregas has obtained 13 goals in 45 games in every one competitions for the La Liga champions this year, he has failed so that you can break the midfield enterprise of Xavi and Andre Iniesta and with so much other competition at the center of the field the Spaniard may wish an out.

United would certainly welcome a player involving Fabregas' quality as except Michael Carrick the section have limited options in central midfield.

New boss David Moyes can be hoping his star striker can tempt his former Arsenal teammate to Manchester when he prepares for his first season inside the Old Trafford dugout.

Michigan Golf course Reviews.

Here's an updated directory Michigan courses I have got played and reviewed. Around this point, I've done 40 one reviews (perhaps more, but I can't find them on my own site), with another twenty still to look. I've taken notes and additionally photos on every course I've played make it possible for me to write the review later on.

Reviews are based on my impressions of the course on the day(s) I played, and it really should be noted that conditions and every so often even the layout often have changed since I enjoyed.

All of the Michigan greens reviews are from the perspective to a bogey golfer, and I place a premium on fun. I love courses that you think a bit, and that don't know they can count solely on length for a defense. Also important to me is the cabability to walk the course. I've noted few courses where walking to be real not practical. Too quite often, I believe, courses ban walking to post extra profits from the carts. Finally, I find value. A course that sets a superior bar by claiming "championship" condition and charging a premium price have to be very good. A course that gives good golf at your bargain price gets superior marks for meeting or exceeding their particular standards.

Rafael Nadal clinches 24th ATP Masters title, beats Federer to win Rome title

Spaniard Rafael Nadal sealed his seventh Rome Masters title on Sunday by routing Swiss superstar Roger Federer in dominating fashion – sealing the victory with a 6-1, 6-3 score.

By winning the Rome Masters title, Nadal acquired his 24th career ATP Masters 1000 title, an all-time record (Federer comes in second place with 21).

"If you told me four or five months ago that after eight tournaments I would have won six titles from eight finals, I would say you are crazy," said Nadal. "To win three [ATP World Tour] Master 1000 and two [ATP World Tour] 500 tournaments is more than I ever dreamed.

"All I can say is 'thank you for the support and to my team'. Thanks to them I have the chance to be here again and compete. I don't want to think about Roland Garros yet. Let me enjoy this victory," he added.

By successfully defending the Rome Masters title, Nadal will rise to world number four in the rankings and is assured to be seeded either third or fourth at the upcoming Roland Garros tournament. He could get the third seeding should Andy Murray decide to pull out of the tournament due to an ongoing back injury.

Nadal received €501,700 and 1,000 ranking points. Federer picked up €246,000 and 600 points. Nadal improved his head-to-head series against Federer to 20-10.

"It didn't go how I hoped and I was missing too many easy forehands and crucial points," said Federer. "He does an incredible job returning form the back of the court and it is hard because he covers the court so well. You need to serve accurately. When Rafa is at his best he creates opportunities in rallies and dictates. It was difficult to change."

Norris Cole Should Be Miami Heat's Starting Point Guard

During the regular season, Norris Cole's ESPN Player Efficiency Rating was an underwhelming 7.85 (the league average is 15.0), putting him in the company of players such as the Los Angeles Lakers' point guard tandem of Chris Duhon and Darius Morris.

However, under the bright lights of the NBA postseason, the former Cleveland State standout has shined like a diamond.

In fact, as crazy as it sounds, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra should seriously consider putting Cole in the starting lineup going forward.

In nine playoff games this year, the 6'2" Cole is averaging 8.8 points per game while shooting 60.4 percent from the field and a ridiculous 68.8 percent from beyond the arc.

When the 24-year-old backup point guard is on the floor, Miami averages more points per 48 minutes than it does while he's on the bench (101.1 PPG vs. 96.4 PPG). As a whole, the team shoots better from three-point range (37.1 percent vs. 30.8 percent) thanks to Cole's ability to stretch the floor.

"Right now, I'm feeling pretty comfortable out there on the court," said Cole in an interview with Shandel Richardson of the Sun-Sentinel in early May. "I'm pleased with my progress so far."

As good as he's been on the offensive end, Cole's true value may come in his ability to stay in front of opposing point guards. Each of the three remaining teams not named the Miami Heat has a solid floor general, but Cole is more than capable of defending nearly anyone that he would be matched up against.

"Norris' ability, with his speed and his strength, is on defense," said LeBron James while speaking to George Richards of The Miami Herald after the first round. "I think he's one of the best on-ball defenders that we have in the Eastern Conference, if not the whole league."

Meanwhile, starting point guard Mario Chalmers has been anything but super since the end of the regular season. He is averaging 7.0 points and 4.1 assists per game in the playoffs, but is shooting worse than 42 percent from the field and 24 percent from downtown.

And as we've seen in recent years, the trend of Miami's "Big Three"—James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh—being visibly upset at Chalmers continues.

In Game 3 of the Heat-Bulls semifinal, Bosh and Chalmers had an animated discussion that prompted Chicago center Joakim Noah to applaud the proceedings.

To be fair, Cole isn't the playmaker that Chalmers is. In the postseason, Chalmers is averaging nearly twice as many assists per 36 minutes as Cole is.

But with Wade at less than 100 percent and the Heat desperate for a complementary option, Chalmers has only managed one double-figure scoring game in the 2013 playoffs. Conversely, Cole scored 18 points in back-to-back games in the Bulls series (Games 2 and 3).

Cole has already played more minutes in this postseason (199) than he did during the Heat's title run last year (170). As his commitment to working on his game has increased in recent months, his time on the court has risen as well.

"He's getting so much more education and experience than he had last year," Spoelstra told Richards in early May, well before Cole's star turn in the Heat's series versus Chicago. "He's earned a bigger role."

Heat take off late, top Bucks 98-86 for 2-0 lead

MIAMI (AP) — Everyone in the Miami huddle was bracing for a grind to the finish. On the other end, the sense around the Milwaukee bench was that an upset was there for the taking.

Dwyane Wade scored 21 points, LeBron James finished with 19 and the Heat used a frantic start to the fourth quarter to pull away and beat the Bucks 98-86 in Game 2 of the teams' Eastern Conference first-round series on Tuesday night.

It was 68-65 entering the fourth. With James and four backups on the court, the Heat needed only 2 minutes, 22 seconds to outscore Milwaukee 12-0 and stretch the lead to 80-65 — ensuring the reigning NBA champions would take a 2-0 series lead into Game 3 on Thursday night.

"We held court," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We protected it for two games. We did what we're supposed to do. And that's it."

Chris Bosh, Shane Battier and Chris Andersen all scored 10 points for the Heat. James' postseason streaks of 22 straight games with at least 20 points, and 16 straight games of at least 25 points, both came to an end.

"We didn't get into our game like we wanted to in that third quarter," James said. "But we went into the fourth with a (three-point) lead and we were able to jump on them."

Ersan Ilyasova scored 21 points for Milwaukee, which got 16 from Mike Dunleavy and 14 from Larry Sanders. The Bucks' starting guards, Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis, combined for only 15 points — after teaming up to score 48 in Game 1.

"It's a series," said Sanders, who had a sore right ankle after he collided with Battier in the fourth quarter. "We made progress this game."

They'll need to make more, and do it quickly. James has never lost in 10 previous series where his team takes a 2-0 lead, and Wade is 8-0 in that same situation.

"In the playoffs you've got to find different ways to win," Wade said. "No matter what everybody says on the outside, (Milwaukee) is a good team. They played us very well."

Andersen started it with a three-point play, James had a layup not long afterward and the Heat were starting to roll. Another basket by Andersen off a pass from Ray Allen made it 77-65, and James found Norris Cole for a 3-pointer that capped the flurry and made it 80-65.

"They were doing some things that had us spinning around a little bit defensively, got us on our heels, and offensively we never got into a rhythm," Spoelstra said. "So we figured we were just going to have to find a way to grind in the fourth quarter, figuring it was going to be a close game."

The Heat have raved about their depth all season, so they had no qualms about sending James out to start the fourth with Cole, Andersen, Battier and Ray Allen.

By the time starters like Wade and Bosh got back onto the court, the task was merely protecting the lead, which the Heat did with relative ease.

"We felt pretty good about the position we were in, giving ourselves an opportunity on the road with 12 minutes to go," Bucks coach Jim Boylan said. "You feel good about that. Then they come out, go on a 12-0 run and it changes the complexion of the game. Playing catch-up is very hard to do against a high-quality team like Miami."

Jennings and Ellis combined for 48 points in Game 1, and the Bucks got blown out. So in the first half of Game 2, they combined for one point, were held to five shots that all missed ... and the Bucks were within 47-43 at halftime.

But play was sloppy from the outset, with the teams combining for eight turnovers in the first 6 minutes to set the tone for a clumsy first half. Wade, James and Chalmers shot 15 for 19 combined in the first half for Miami — and the rest of the Heat were 3 for 17. For Milwaukee, Ilyasova had 12 points in the first 10 minutes, then two points the rest of the half.

And for the entirety of the third quarter, the Bucks hung around, though the Heat showed some signs of getting things going. Bosh had a dunk for a six-point lead, then made a jumper — on a play that James started by running down a loose ball and flicking it between his legs for a save along the sideline — for a 68-60 lead, what was then the biggest Heat margin of the night.

Jennings said Milwaukee would win in six games before the series began, and his confidence didn't waver even now with his club in an 0-2 hole.

"We showed a lot of improvement tonight," said Jennings, who shot 3 for 15. "Aside of making that run in the fourth I think we should have won this game."

Both teams got a big scare with 6:59 left. Battier drove for a layup from the right wing, and Sanders rushed down the middle of the lane to attempt a block. A collision ensued and both players hit the court awkwardly, Battier hitting his head on the hardwood and Sanders — who fell over Battier — grabbing at his right leg.

NOTES: It's the 11th time the Heat have gone up 2-0 in a playoff series. They're 10-0 in the previous instances. ... Milwaukee has lost 21 of its last 29 playoff games. ... Sanders was third in the NBA's Most Improved Player voting, behind Indiana's Paul George and New Orleans' Greivis Vasquez. "Look where he was last year and where he is today. The improvement is very obvious," said Boylan, who thought Sanders should have won. ... Jennings was held without a first-half basket for only the fifth time all season.

So why Nathan Ake Was Chelsea's Cutting edge Star of 2012-13.

18-year-old Nathan Ake made his full debut with regard to Chelsea's first team within the FA Cup tie gone at Middlesbrough. Rafa Benitez's post-match bite-back with the fans overshadowed what had been a composed, confident performance through the youngster, but it hasn't been Ake's only chance to shine.

His inclusion within the squad to face Rubin Kazan higher eyebrows, but his some tackles and seven interceptions ended up being vital to Chelsea's 5-4 get worse win. With injuries together with fatigue pressuring the team, Ake found himself playing within the second leg of your FA Youth Cup final and sitting over the bench for the Europa League final with the same week that your dog made his full Premier League debut with the final game of the growing season.

Again he impressed, with the 84 percent passing accuracy complimenting his three tackles and four accurate lengthy balls. When you consider that he is significantly ten years younger than even Eden Hazard and Oscar, the impact that Ake has made in the middle of midfield is nothing except remarkable.

Ake was sent to Chelsea from Feyenoord within 2011 and spent yearly in the youth and additionally reserve teams before his promotion on the senior squad. One of many promising young talents currently employed by Chelsea, Ake looked more likely spending a season watching from the sidelines instead of gaining valuable experience out inside loan.

Instead, he provides patiently awaited his chance, and when it provided itself he seized it with your hands. Whilst he would have tried significantly more minutes relating to the pitch if he previously had departed West London, the experience that he has acquired from regularly training while using the first-team squad will be invaluable to his, ideally long, future at Chelsea.

Ideal Draft Picks for Philadelphia Flyers' 5 Biggest Needs

Another specific blueliner the Flyers could use is a two-way defenseman. Last season, Philadelphia was extremely limited, with its defenders contributing on offense.

Kimmo Timonen, who consistently posts great offensive numbers, will likely be retiring after next season, and the Flyers should look for his replacement. In addition, the team has struggled to replace injured star Chris Pronger, who also contributed offensively during his illustrious NHL career.

The Turku, Finland, native, is an extremely talented offensive defender, who can contribute to a team's scoring threat. Ristolainen is a good skater with smooth stick-handling skills—a rarity for a player his size.

Not only can he contribute to a team's offensive goals, but he is also a dominating defender. The young player enjoys throwing his body around and battling for the puck. In a 2012 interview with NHL's Adam Kimelman, Ristolainen explained he models his play after Chris Pronger and thrives on playing physical hockey:

"I like to play physical and nasty and keep the puck and score. I'm good at keeping the puck and passing. I think I'm good on [the] power play. I have a pretty good shot."

The Flyers appear to be a perfect match for Ristolainen and vice versa. He should fill the team's largest need this offseason and for the future.

HS Center Fielder Who Already Had Three Errors Makes Astounding Catch To Save Game

Center fielder Tony Hernandez was not having the best of days — he had three errors for Diboll High School in their Region III (Texas) playoff game with Caldwell, and his team went into the seventh (and final) inning holding a rickety one-run lead. So there's two outs, two runners on, and the Caldwell batter is down to his last strike. It's the third game of a best-of-3 series, with the winner going on to the Region III quarterfinals. BrazosSports.com:

Caldwell put the potential tying and winning runs on base after two outs with a strikeout on a wild pitch and a nine-pitch walk by No. 9 batter Tyler Sandner.

Suehs drove a 2-0 pitch into the breeze, sending the ball farther than any batter on either team all day. Hernandez, who committed three errors in the game, made a sensational catch and was mobbed by his teammates in deep center.

"I was nervous," Hernandez said. "I thought it was going to burn me, but I guess I got there in time. I turned around at the last minute and it fell in my glove. I was lucky.
