When the Dodgers asked Lilly to extend his minor league rehab assignment with another two starts, the veteran southpaw affirmed that he was healthy and insisted he was ready for major league action, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.
Gurnick continues, saying the Dodgers can either "activate Lilly, designate him for assignment, release him, or trade him."
With the injury to Zack Greinke, it looks like Chris Capuano will assume the role as the fifth starter in the rotation. That leaves Lilly in limbo. However, with his contract up after the 2014 season, it would be in the Dodgers' and Lilly's best interest to seek a trade.
As of now, no teams have openly expressed interest in acquiring the 37-year-old lefty, but his numbers have been good enough over the last few years to avoid ending up an unsigned free agent pending a release.
Some teams in the hunt with a desperate need for starting pitching are Philadelphia, Toronto, Cleveland and Seattle.
