Birmingham City striker Carlos Tevez admits motoring offenses - The Independent

Birmingham City striker Carlos Tevez today fled a custodial sentence for some driving violations. After pleading guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance, the Argentina international was sentenced to 250 hours of community support, a driving ban and a A1,000 great. There have been an extremely real risk that the former Manchester United striker might face amount of time in prison. Driving while disqualified carries a maximum punishment of a custodial sentence and a A5,000 fine. The web site drivingban.co.uk, which provides legal advice to motorists, states: "A jail sentence is just a very real risk, especially if the court feels that by driving you have shown disrespect to the court that enforced the original suspension." Earlier in the day in the day the 29-year-old entered his guilty plea in his native Spanish with the help of an interpreter as he stood in the dock at Macclesfield Magistrates' Court. JPs heard that the Argentinian, who gave his name as Carlos Alberto Tevez, hasn't yet got a driving licence, partly because he's struggled to move the theory test, which will be conducted in English. Tevez pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance after being stopped as he left a driver in a Cayenne on the day of 7 March this season following an tip-off to police. Tevez was fined and banned A1,540 by Manchester magistrates in January after he didn't react to words from both Cheshire and Lancashire police after being caught rushing in his Hummer on two occasions. He pleaded guilty but said he didn't understand the words due to his insufficient English. He also mentioned lacking a proper UK driving licence. Kate Marchuk, prosecuting, told the judge a police was called to the Mottram Hall Hotel and Driver in Cheshire at around 4pm on March 7. "There had been a call from an unknown caller, that the opposition had pushed a Range Rover to the driver whilst disqualified. "The official confirmed this on the Authorities National Computer." But Miss Marchuk said Tevez have been disqualified from driving on January 16, until May 25. Actually Tevez, who lives in nearby Alderley Edge, did not get into the Range Rover, but rather at around 5pm left the club, got into a Porsche Cayenne and drove off. He was stopped nearby and arrested for driving while disqualified and having no insurance. He told the officer: "I only live later on. Two minutes." Tevez was taken fully to the police station and later bailed but at an additional meeting made no answer police questions.
