Steven Taylor believes Newcastle United can still reach the semi-final stage of the Europa League, despite defeat in Lisbon
Steven Taylor said that Newcastle United are still brimming with belief when it comes to their dream of seeing off Benfica – despite last night's 3-1 loss in Lisbon.
United went in at 1-1 at the break last night but Taylor knows that the game is only at the halfway stage overall with 90 minutes left to play on Tyneside.
"And we got right in their faces and you could see them getting a bit angry. There were a few daft tackles from them.
"When Papiss hit the post it could have been different. We proved in the second half that we could win this tie. But a couple of sloppy goals gave them the advantage. You can't afford to do that."
It was Taylor's unfortunate handball that led to Benfica grabbing what could prove to be the decider in the encounter.
Looking back on the moment that handed Oscar Cardozo the chance to seal a 3-1 win, Taylor said: "It just hit my hand.
