Stoke City: Geoff Cameron's Boston Marathon Scare - This is Staffordshire

Cameron immediately got on the phone to check his and his girlfriend's family were all safe after the explosions killed three  and mutilated many more.

"I got a message from one of my good friends in the States and I didn't know what he was talking about," Cameron recalled.

"He said there's been two bombings at the Boston Marathon and I just put the news on right away and called my dad, called my mum and called my family.

"Seeing it unfold on the news and not being in the States was weird, because there was a slight delay on everything. It was tough to watch, that's for sure.

"I couldn't get off to sleep until around 1am. I was watching the news and texting all my buddies to make sure they were safe and sound."

Cameron was also relieved to learn that some of girlfriend Lindsay's family, who live just round the corner from the bombing, were also safe and well.

"Even if you don't have anyone who was directly affected by it, you are still affected by it because that's my city, that's where I come from.
